|
|
In corresponding with several Mexico experts, I have heard a private english teacher should demand no less than 150 pesos per hour. This seems high, but others have said no less than 60 pesos per hour. This seems LOW. My conclusion is about 100 pesos per hour if I teach one-on-one private english lessons. Anybody care to voice their opinion? |

Depends on the city...can't remember where you are...? For DF, I'd say no less than 100. |

Depends on the city and also the client. Bored rich seoras will pay much more than you'd imagine. In San Luis I wouldn't charge less than $100 an hour. Be aware that most schools charge at least $200 an hour for private lessons... they may pay the teacher $40 but they're charging at least $200. Anywhere between $100 and $150 will get you the job as you'll always be undercutting the schools. |

Here (Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas) the accepted amount is 50 pesos an hour. This is considered, very, very, good by everyones standards. Cost of living is low as well. |

It depends.
There is no definative answer. We can't even give definitive answers on things like FM3 requirements, how could be even attempt this question?
It depends on the city, cost-of-living, going rate.
It depends on your resume as a teacher. If someone hires me they better expect to pay me more than someone fresh off a TEFL with no experience.
It depends on the customer. Friends and family get a lower price for everything in Mexico, private lessons are no different. You might also base your rate on their ablity to pay, a sliding scale sort of thing. A lot of private doctors in my town do this.
It depends on the lessons. Low level? High level? just conversation? test prep? writing? one-on-one or small group?
And lastly, it depends on how badly you need the work. I don't need the work, so I won't consider a private lesson for anything less than 250 an hour, that's how much it would take to make it worth it for me. |

thank you to all for those very very insightful responses. I was planning to go to Veracruz but will stop on the way in Tampico to check things out as well. Dont know if Ill prefer Tamp or Vera, but I imagine Vera would command a higher salary than small town Tamp.
I will run ads in the paper and put fliers up, and Ill go with the 100 pesos per hour for the time being. |
