Sorry about my flippant remark earlier... not that it is out of character or anything but the idea of Kurdistan here in Turkey is punishable by long prison terms

About 18 months I was offered a position in a Turkish medium school teaching English in Erbil. The job was something like 10 days on and the rest of the month off.
In the end I chickened out and stayed here in Istanbul. The guy who was trying to persuade me to go ended up going himself because he couldn't find anyone to take up the post.

I have no contact with him anymore and don't know what happened.

But there are jobs there. Incidently I researched a bit into Erbil and it seems like a fascinating place to visit...... but not for a ginger-haired Scot in the middle of a civil war.

I've been in touch with one of our previous posters on this thread who was offered a job w/ Choueifat in N. Iraq. Sounds like the kids are far behind academically, and Choueifat is very much like it is in the UAE and other Gulf counties: not the most pleasant place to work. The salary does not seem like enough considering that it is a war zone. Teachers are heavily guarded. Accommodation is shared. I do know, though, that they are in need of some teachers, so anyone with a pulse and diploma is welcome, nay, encouraged to apply. From the sound it things, though, this is not the great cultural experience that most ESL teachers seek out when going abroad. If your goal is to become close to the Kurds/Iraqis, this might not be the right gig/time for that.

Another job site has listed uni jobs at the UNiversity of Kurdistan, too. You need a few years experience, and a DELTA is preferred, as well as some IELTS experience.
