if i wanted to go to thailand and teach english for 3 months, would i be able to do that? 6 months is too long, and i've been thinking about teaching in thailand so that i get to all of the places in southeast asia that i want to visit.

if not in thailand, where in southeast asia can i do it?

oh, i don't have any teaching experience but i might have a degree by the time i go to thailand (i have one more semester of school). i'm a 21 year old american guy

There is no place that I have ever heard that would hire someone legally for 3 months. Even 6 months is hard to come by. Most schools want a year or they won't give you a contract. You will be able to find illegal part time temporary work. Without a degree or a teaching credential like a Celta or TEFL, you won't get anything worth doing.

Look at it this way. If you were a student and you wanted to study with a teacher, would you only want to study 3 months and then have to adjust to a new teacher?

Come for a vacation but leave teaching to those that are dedicated to the students and education.

thanks for the reply

sorry for not being so "hardcore" about teaching but i don't want to commit to something if i don't know how it will turn out. when i was in bangkok, i sat in on an english class that my thai friend and her thai friend were teaching and they still make a lot of mistakes, so i figured that maybe it wouldn't be so hard for me to find work

I guess the point there is that if students are paying the lower rates for a Thai teacher, they can expect some mistakes. When students start to pay out the 'big bucks' for a native English teacher, they will probably be expecting a higher standard (unless they don't notice)

You are going to have to work illegally for such a short period of time, but there are always dodgy (and not so dodgy) schools around looking for someone to fill in for a time, so hit the ground and knock on some doors for some unofficial work Smile

PS You will really have to save your $$ if you want to travel on your savings from such a short term of employment.

Thai students deserve teachers who value teaching ethics.
