The Philippines, where ghost spends a lot of time when not working, is ranked as the most "friendly country" in the world toward new migrants.....with Thailand at the bottom in friendliness toward new migrants.

Taiwan - another country where ghost taught and studied Mandarin (2005-06) also ranked very poorly in its treatment of new migrants.

Turkey, had a surprisingly poor ranking in the tables, with regard to their friendliness toward new migrants (not to be confused with tourists).

Check this out.

The results of the Gallup poll obviously don't make much sense to expats like myself, who was frequently harrassed and even spit at in Korea simply for being a foreigner, and yet never in five years and thousands of conversations with Turks have I heard immigration "most negatively regarded." There is less xenophobia in Turkey than anywhere else I have ever been (which includes almost every Western nation). Only intra-national prejudice exists---you are met with open arms everywhere, as long as you aren't Armenian, or from Kurdistan.

I wonder who they asked in Turkey, and what the questions were.
