Hello all,

Happy New Year.

Im looking for AUDIO CASSETTE TAPES and childrens fairy tale books. I dont want CDs, DVDs, VCDs, XYZ s, or ABC s, because I dont want to be dependent on a computer, I dont have a CD player, and I just think a simple audio cassette player/recorder is easier to use, easier to fix, more portable, more convenient, and cheaper to use, maintain, and fix.

I want to give my new-born daughter the gifts of language and music, and I think audio cassettes are the best way to do this.

I want the OLD, OLD FASHIONED, repetitive, predictable, easy-to-remember, easy-to-sing-and-say tales of Old McDonald, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Peanut/Peanut Butter---JELLY!!, etc.

I did actually get some CDs at one of the Jareers, but theyre quite inadequate. Songs from every American, British, or European fairy tale you can ever think of are sung, but QUICKLY!! QUICKLY!!, as if the singers are in a hurry to finish. They usually sing only one verse, sometimes half a verse. One gets the impression these were clearly made for marketing, not for the value of the language and pure joy you can have in listening/repeating them for your child.

Id also like to find some CHILDRENS BOOKS. I dont mean the latest Super-heroes from Japan or France (no Captain Majed or Tin-tin in .(you name the country), please.). If I find the plain old books that I was basically brought up on, I plan to record them myself, so my daughter can listen to them when Im away at work, and help her to go to sleep when I cant put her to bed myself. Ive been told that I have a pleasant (and hopefully somnambulant) singing and recording voice.

Ive checked the Jareers on Abdullah, Sitteen, and Olaya Sts. Ive checked Obeikan and Sawaan bookstores. Ive looked into a bookstore they call Maktaba on Olaya, near Tahlia St, and one on the access road to the Damamm/Mecca Highway. Ive checked the tape mini-stores in the Tamimis on Debab St., Fahad Rd., Sahara Mall, and Fal Center, and the entire rest of the Sahara Mall. Ive checked the store that sells tapes in the Euromarche Plaza, the 747 store on Olaya, and all the major supermarkets on the Dammam Highway/Al Kharj Highways, from Exits 9 to 16.
There is really nothing available that I want.

Can you help me? Thank you in advance from
John (John) Yarrington (Yarrington) and from
Linh (miracle) Thi (poet) Hoa (flower) Yarrington (Yarrington)

I do not think you will find Audio cassettes for children in SA. We are living in the 21st century, and the future of media is digital, so I guess the Audio cassettes will disappear from the markets within the next 5 to 10 years. Most of the audio cassette player/recorder nowadays, are equipped with CD/DVDs! And, I think the computer is more convenient, more portable, and sometimes cheaper to fix than an old Audio cassette!
So, go for digital, this is the future life for our children!!!

I think you will continue to have a hard time finding these things in KSA, even Saudis I know have said as much. I seriously suggest you look into ordering these things from Amazon.com or Amazon.com.uk, either one has the same items and you can find most everything you are looking for. I have found them to be dependable and reasonable, as they replace orders that don't reach their destinations.
