It's been a bit slow here reacently, only three new topics posted so far this month. Here's a conversation starter. Has anyone else been to Kuelap, the walled citadel built by the Chachapoyas culture. What did you think? I think it's stunning and would thoroughly recommed a visit there! It's in a pretty remote and unspoiled location and it's very very exotic and interesting, it's a good adventure to get there, but not too comfortable at all I remember! |

I agree. It's been slow, guess everyone is busy with end-of-the-year grades and vacation plans.
Hope that people will start posting soon. |

Where is it? What town or city is it close to? |

I suppose the closest towns to Kuelap are Chachapoyas and Tarapoto in the northern Amazon region of Peru. |

I'm off there in January - not the best time I know, rainy season and all that, but if I don't go now then I'll keep putting it off. Looking forward to the Gocta falls in particular, I saw an article and pics in a magazine and they look stunning.
The nearest town is Chachapoyas and you can apparently get on a tour from there or DIY it via Tingo.
Looking forward to it immensely. |

Gocta is reputed to be the third highest waterfall on earth, thought I think it's a disputed claim. It was 'discovered' relatively recently, and so isnt always in the guidebooks.
More recently than that, they found 15 taller ones in Yumbilla in the last year, and are currently 'building' an 'Inca Road' to them, whatever that means. The highest is meant to be double the height of the Tour Eiffel. Now that, would be off the beaten track. |
