If I am no longer going to be working, do I have to do something with my FM3? like give it back to migracion?

Well, let me clarify. I am going to the US tomorrow for five weeks because my Mom is having her knee replaced. When I return in April I will no longer be teaching, only studying Spanish. My boss needs to be able to give my FM3 to someone else, so I said I would return on a tourist visa when I come back. I assume he will eventually let migracion know that I am know longer working there, but probably not until the new person goes down to apply. When I applied, I took a letter stating the other girl was no longer working there, but she had already been gone for several months. If I come back on a tourist visa and nobody has yet informed migracion will I be doing something seriously wrong? The office closes today at 1:00 pm and it is noon right now so I couldn't get there today if I needed to.

Yes, I understand that he is not technically giving my FM3 to someone else. I meant that figuratively not literally.

So if migracion takes the FM3, but doesn't give an FMT in exchange (as I understand the case to be here with the office in Morelia), what paper does a person give to the airline when they try to leave within 15 days? Do they give you something temporary? My logic here being that you can't get an FME (Forma Roja) since you no longer have the FM3.

The above question is moot since I will be able to leave with my FM3 and a Forma Roja tomorrow. But since I will not have notified migracion and I doubt that my boss will have gotten around to it either, I am just concerned that I will be doing something illegal (like misrepresenting my status) when I return on an FMT in April and still technically have a valid FM3. Maybe I am just being too paranoid.

When I left Mexico after living there, I didn't cancel my FM3. Wanted to keep it as a souvenir actually. Cool

Then, about a year and a half later I entered on an FMT and nobody asked me if I'd been here before or anything. I don't think you're tracked via computer like in the States.

Unrelated, but all the very best to your mum. As a veteran of two knee ops, and still on sick leave for the second one, I know how tough it can be. Good for you for being there for her.

Lozwich, did you have your surgery in Colombia? I hope you knee injuries weren't TEFL related (kicking things out of frustration and so forth)and hope all is going well with your recovery.

Yes I had both my surgeries in Colombia. One in August and one 2 1/2 weeks ago. They were kind of TEFL related, because of all the time walking between school and home for consarned split shifts! But no, generally other loopy things caused my dodgy knees, like a very nasty roof in Oaxaca one New Year's eve... Wink

And thanks for the well wishes. I'm having a bored and lonely day today, and am trying to learn how to walk again. Funny how such little scars (I had arthroscopic surgery) can make my legs so gammy!
