Sorry, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to warn of a horrid English School, but here it is: Lembaga Indonesia- Amerika (The Indonesian-American Foundation - popularly known as Yayasan LIA) is a place all ESL teachers definitely want to avoid. One is expected to present students with witlessly incompetent tests written by LIA staff whose level of English is an insipid intermediate at best. They pay low salaries as the whim suits them and are exceedingly unprofessional in any way one cares to concieve. Worst of all - having exhausted the supply of locally residng experienced ESL teachers, who are wise to them, they have now embarked on a plan to hire fresh universitry graduates from abroad. In other words they are looking for lambs to lead to the slaughter. It would be an invaluable service if those of you reading this could pass
the word onto other ESL forums and such that you know of, or are members of. If you know of another forum that concentrates on bad English schools and warnings to avoid them, please post their addresses here (other than the esteemed Dave's - feel free to cut and paste this message). Thank you all for your attention and (hopefully) your assistance.

Funny you remind me, I sent them a resume, they replied 3 weeks later with: Unfortunately, we have hired several native speakers that we need. At 210pm.and then at 3:56pm came this: I have just talked to my Academic Director. She's wondering if you could meet her for an interview. If you are still availble please see us on Thursday, 5 Otober 2006 at 11:00. The venue is:

Witch was sent on the 3rd,. never mind they never told me anything about the job, but they are sure I will fly 2.5 hrs to get there!

I have since learned that LIA has been entirely unsucessful in their bid to recruit greenhorns with a flimsy visa status to teach for peanuts. Good to see ESL teacher's are cagier than that. We must be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves.
