What advice would you give to new-comers or what stories do you have about your personal experiences about walking on the sidewalks of Taipei?

Dear Jenny,
"Bubba got hit by a scooter." He was walking on the streets of TP when...

Step up, step down. Walk around man hole covers and general holes. If you find your path blocked by scooters retrace your steps and walk through the oncoming traffic.

Be careful walking on sections of pavement that are covered in shiny bathroom tiles. They can be very slippery when wet.

You need to be careful of gangs of hot young babes who like to grab single males and gang rape him. It is really bad. Happened to me a bunch of times. Now days when I see a group of young very hot looking babes walking toward me, I cross the street as fast as I can!

A friend of mine once said, "You have to think a lot more when you walk in Taiwan." No truer words were ever spoken. The up and down nature of the sidewalks makes walking something of an adventure sport. I always like to wear really sturdy hiking boots because it doesn't hurt quite as much when you twist your ankle.

Taipei has more sidewalk area than other areas of Taiwan especially Kaohsiung they are building an MRT, have scooters everywhere, and really have no sidewalks - anywhere.

What about prams and strollers etc? Do many people seem to use those? Do they need mountaineering equipment as well?
