Has anyone heard of the English Opens Doors program that is being organized by the UN and the Chilean Ministry of Education? Each region is being recruited by a different TEFL company, and although the fees vary, you basically pay about $1000 for an online TEFL course, then you go to Santiago for 2 weeks of training, then get placed in a school for 8 months where your room and board is covered and you make $150/month. You have to pay for your own airfare and in some cases health insurance. Does this sound like a good deal? Bad deal? Good experience? It seems legit, as it is on the Ministry of Education's website...
Also, does anyone have health insurance suggestions? Any providers that work especially well in Chile, any bad/good experiences? THanks! |

As far as I know this program doesn't exist. If you know more of it, please get back to me.
Thanks,

Here is the website that explains this program.
It is sponsored by 3 different factions: the UN, the Ministry of Education in Chile, and the companies that certify the volunteers to teach English. This is not necessarily a program that allows you to make lots of money teaching English, but it seems to be an official program backed by some important people... There are 2 date ranges: you can do an 8 month program from March through the end of Nov, or you can do a 6 month program starting in May. I am actually doing the 8 month program and I will be living in Region VI (the Bernardo O'Higgins region). Anyhow, check out the link and then you can see for yourself what you think about the program. |
