Hi,
My wife and I are planning to immigrate to Chile in 2007. We have been planning this for some time and selected Chile for many reasons. My wife is a qualified psychologist and her qualification was obtained at a University in Colombia and I am a fully qualified TESOL teacher in the UK (Native speaker) My wifes qualification is fully recognised in Chile; this is not the case in the UK. (As you would expect!)
We are visiting Chile for around three weeks in April. We are specifically looking for work in a tourist area and have been told that Viňa del Mar would be a good place to start. To begin with though, we will spend our first week in Santiago to check out the work situation there.
We are most interested in popular tourist areas as once we have lived and worked there for some time we hope to invest in a property to rent off as well as buy a home for ourselves.
If anyone can suggest reasonably priced hotels in Santiago and in Viňa del Mar (Or indeed other parts of the country we should consider) we would be most grateful. I am also interested in any English schools that may be interested in offering employment.
Thanks!

Hi there
Not sure what kind of price range you are looking for, but when my partner and I first arrived we stayed in a hostel which was very central and run by a gorgeous lady who can't do enough for you, it's called Casa Condell and is in Avenida Condell in Providencia (found it in the lonely planet - can pass the telephone no on ifyou like.) The owner is called Adrians. Her son Max actually works for the Chilean tourism office and it a fantastic source of info and he speaks English well as well. Santiago hostels are not that cheap, but it was quite clean, for a double room with shared bathroom I think it was around 18 000 pesos a night. There are reasonably priced business hotels etc, but I prefer hostels as you get to meet more people.
Regards jobs, I am looking at the moment and am happy to pass onto you my info about schools here, which is in a spreadsheet (I know, sad isn't it!! Can't help myself as worked in an office before)
Anyway let me know if you want any more info from someone already here

Hi, Thanks for the info. The hotel sounds good, especially as we're looking for contacts in Chile regarding the tourism trade. My email is: [email protected] if you want to email me the spread sheet, I'd be most grateful. (Haven't used spread sheets much myself, I'd be interested to see how you've done it!) Thanks again, Philip |

read somewhere la serena had overtaken vina now as the most popular resort. Only been there once myself so not sure how many opportunities there are as opposed to vina. |
