Hi,
Several teachers there have told me the Administration is the worst they have ever seen and the Head of the English Department is ineffectual.
It seems that many teachers are disgruntled with the state of affairs at the College. Salaries are often paid late.
Better places are Salalah and Nizwa. |

Hi,
I've been posted to Sohar and I can tell you it is a great place to teach. The admin people at the College are excellent.
So far, no complaints about Sohar. Only complaint is that last year the rent was cheaper, but this year the rent has doubled because of the construction of the new port and plants due to a large influx of foreign workers. |

Sohar College now has a new Dean and the underlying faults and deficiencies have, over time, now become evident for all to see. Morale is low, organisation is minimal and teachers are leaving and being replaced at the rate of two per month on average.
When I was there I had high hopes and expectations, but unfortunately, over the course of a year, things have not improved. The Head of Department has lost control of his own department and there is little co-ordination.
Perhaps it is the same with the other Colleges of Higher Education, I do not know. But I do know that how things are done at this College is not the way to do them.
Sorry to be so negative about the College, but you have to call a spade a spade sometimes.
I left some months ago because I could see what was happening. |

Sorry to hear about that, steppy-boy. I shall hope against hope that things turn out better in your new venue, but I am not sure if it would be realistic to expect things to be different anywhere in this fair land. As I have claimed time and again on this forum and elsewhere, Oman has a great deal to offer- but this does NOT include clockwork organization. The only solution is to make the anarchy work for you. If that isn't possible, consider a move to the UAE for a more regimented swim with the sharks!
