hello, I am newbie here and newbie to teaching career in Thailand. I am in the process of enrolling in TEFL course with the Chichester college in Bangkok area. Can anyone out there know or have done TEFL training with this college give me advice of this college as compare to other TEFL colleges around Thailand. I am about to pay a deposit and secure a place for March 2007. Would be really grateful for someone shedding light on the integrity of this college before I pay. Very Happy

John,

MOD EDIT

I've just had a quick look at their TESOL Certificate course details. Yes, like the CELTA/Trinity courses, one is required to teach actual L2 English students - but, I couldn't see much about the practical teaching segment (eg, how many hours will you be required to teach a class of L2 students, rather than just your fellow-trainees - maybe, that is indicated on the site, but I couldn't find it - it might be a good idea for you to investigate that matter further). It's quite possible, though, that you might focus on, say, some important aspects of the SLA process that may not be covered in the CELTA/Trinty approach. I certainly don't think that that particular approach has a monopoly of TEFL truth !

So, even if the Chichester course is "better" overall than, say, CELTA, there is still the question of brand-name recognition that needs to be considered. CELTA - and, to a slightly less extent, the Trinity course - is well-known throughout Europe. MOD EDIT

Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

Peter

Please stay on topic.

This thread is not going to turn into a dicussion of the merits of one tefl/tesol course over another.
