If you go to this page and click on some of the left hand toolbars, you'll see a listing of some Japanese airport customs procedures and rules as to what and how much you can take over. It seems you're limited to 24 units of a hygenic product, which is probably enough for most people. However, if you take supplements it seems you may be out of luck in some instances...you're limited to a 2 month supply of something that 'has a mild action on the human body' (what they refer to as a 'quasi drug').
Oh, and no rhinocerous horn!! What a letdown |

Some useful info, thanks.
In line with such matter, does anyone know the baggage weight that airports accept or does this depend on the airline you fly with? If so, does anyone have any idea what this weight is please?
Thanks! |

Depends on the airline. They will probably accept anything ... But usually if it's over 20 kgs, you have to pay. Up to 20 kgs is free.
Bummer about the rhino horn!

I was just talking about this with someone today and I'm really not sure how it works but I think it might be related to your destination. Whenever I've flown to and from Australia (various airlines) the limit has always been 20kg. But the guy I work with flies to Canada and he said that he can take 2 bags each a maximum of 32kg. |

That is true. I am flying Air Canada next week back to Japan and I can bring 2 suitcases 32 kg each and 2 carry-on bags 10 kg each. There is also a dimension restriction on the suitcases too of 153 cm. Believe me I will be maxed to the limit. Be careful of going over because if I am even 1 pound over it will cost me an extra $250. Yikes. 20 kgs seems so little. |

JAL is EXTREMELY anal about the whole luggage thing. It took me 2 phone calls to the airline to figure it out, and even then it was confusing! Plus they don't let you bring what other airlines usually do (in terms of size and weight of your luggage)... So please... before you travel: CHECK!
Also, as a side note.... JAL has no CLUE how to accomodate passengers who fly kosher. We did, and were served "kosher meals" but all I have to say about that: "Oy vey!"
Good luck!

I worked for an airline company before in NY. Each passenger is allowed 2 luggages @ 32 kilos each. You're also allowed to bring ONE carryon. The max weight for this is 10 kilos. You can also bring a "personal" bag such as a purse or backpack. Note that airlines have a piece-wise regulation for carryon bags. Your carryon cant be too bulky.
I'm just not sure about what the regulations are for flights from Australia.
If you want kosher meals, vegetarian meals, or any other kind of meals, you need to inform the airline at least 24 hours before your flight so that they can order it from the catering service. Otherwise, you're stuck with whatever food they have. |

It's very simple! If your flight begins or ends in N.America(for this case the USA and Canada....Mexico i'm not sure about but I think is the same) then you get 2 times 32 kg as long as the bags aren't too big. . .anywhere else and it's 20kg. 23 kg if it's BA (British Airways).
Domestic flts are different in that you either get 1 pc (one times 32kg) or a kg limit (20/23 kg)
Your luggage allowance has to be clearly stated on yyour ticket! AND IT IS. . .either pcs or kg.....however you can get around it to some extent. . . . being nice to the check-in staff is advisable. I recenty flew home China-England-Scotland and was not charge a penny for my 26kg (six kg over on both flts!) as i was A: very early to check in B: Smiling C: Polite D: Attentive blah blah blah. . . .
anyway i used to work for a student travel cmpny hence know many things like this , , , , please reply with q's etc
all the best
see you in japan in sept
the wailer
pps keyboard very bad d and l not working properly the rest are fading. . . . |

It is! But like one other poster said, you can often get away with a few kg extra, especially if the flight isn't full. I usually fly Singapore and they are pretty reasonable about the weight being a bit over but .......

A couple of years ago I flew Malaysian Airlines to Australia and they even weighed my hand luggage and rejected t because it was a bit over 5kg. |

Of course there are 'rules', but it's basically down to how the check in staff are feeling that day. If you can charm them or make them feel sorry for you you can get away with like 10kg extra free sometimes. Arrive early, look pathetic (or raffish), and hope the flight isn't full. |

My trip, Australia to Japan, came via New Zealand and Hong Kong. Three international flights and an internal in NZ. My suitcase always weighed about 40kg and by the time I left HK I had about another 15kg of handluggage. Didn't have to pay a penny My girlfriend was well over too. Think we were bloody lucky though, could've lost some dosh for that. |

Okay, thanks a lot for the answers!
I'm going to be flying from the UK so I'll make sure I check with the airlines when I book my flight.
Cheers! |
