I know next to nothing about Tamaulipas, and I don't remember seeing much on this forum about the state or its cities, which are Ciudad Victoria, Reynosa, Tampico, Nuevo Laredo, and Matamoros. State info can be found right here

Tamaulipas is heavy on agriculture and industry - primarily assembly for export. Hugging Texas, I would think there are teaching opportunities there, but you might also find it very Americanized or with a higher cost-of-living over central or southern Mexico.
