Hi I just want to share a really unusual interview experience. Currently I'm working at a high school in Tokyo through a company. I've been trying to get a position direct with high schools for years. Anyway I had my interview today for a teaching position at a very nice Junior high school. I was told before going to the interview that intermediate Japanese ability was required. Almost the whole interview was conducted in Japanese. This was kind of daunting but fun for me at the same time. I was asked about my opinion on teaching methods and I said "I rarely speak Japanese in class" and would prefer not to use it at all. They agreed. So I guess the only reason they wanted "intermediate Japanese ability" was for the interview process?
I don't get the result till Monday so will have to wait and see how that goes. |

It was probably to check if you'd be able to handle duties outside of the class (i.e. attending teacher's meetings, reading memos, communicating with other teachers, etc). |

I don't speak a word of Japanese, actually that's not true I speak about 20... and one of them is the Japanese word for buttocks.
I love not speaking any Japanese because the details of life beyond my own are irrelevant. Bootiful. |
