For those of you that already have a residence visa.

When renewing your Visa, do you need five photos or will one do?

Also do you need four copies of the application form?

You need masses of photos, I'm not sure if it's five or more.

Its impossible, I think. Mine expired at the end of August, and because I was going to be away for two months after that, I couldnt technically extend or renew it- which I could have done within, I believe, 2 or 3 weeks of expiry. I can, however, go get the regular residence permit from the emniyet, and apparently it is now possible to get your work permit tagged on to that after a few months if you've been legal already in Turkey. Don't know what the exact details are but that's what the guy who arranges visas at the school told me.

that's such a pain. what about arrivin on a one way tkt? i booked a one way with Turkish Airlines and they contacted my travel agent and said that I cant come on a one way. Ive been told this is not correct. Perhaps it's just cos i was booked with Turkish Airlines? I guess it's better to fly with someone else????

I have a question about extending the Residence Permit.

Usually the process is quite harmless, and lasts about an hour.

However, late last year they seemed to have changed the process and EVERYBODY regardless of what kind of permit had to line up and do it from scratch. My usual hour long experience took around six hours.

I was wondering if anyone has done it this year and how it went down.

Regards,
Dude

i took a teacher to the emniyet a couple of months ago and it took about an hour and a half. he needed 5 photos, btw. we got a number for a couple of lines, filled out the forms there, paid the money, and he picked it up the following week. the system seems to be working a lot better than in the past.

and yes, apparently once you have the residence permit it is much easier to get the work permit.

I just did it a few months ago and it took me 3 hours- it would have taken 2 but the guy at the last window I had to queue at just sat and drank tea and stared at us for an hour before signing that last bit of paper. Over all a lot less painful than I had expected (aside from having to get there at 7am). My school paid for it and sent a helper along with me in case things got complicated. I picked it up the following week, easy peasy.

So,

my question is after you get the number, do you go to the last guy, or do you now have to line up, in two lines before you finally make the payement.

There are about three more queues to endure; one in a hall upstairs, then around the corner, then at a counter. Then you go downstairs to pay.

That's what I thought. Thanks a lot.

I usually go early in the morning. However, I'm thinking if I go around 1 pm, there will be less of a crowd and less of a hassle.

What do you guys think??

Its based on a number system, which starts when they open (I was number 1!!!!). If you come at 1pm, your number may be 436, and you'll have to queue behind the 435 people who arrived before you and who may be super slow and full of complicated, time consuming goof ups. I was lucky and had no one but myself to slow down the process. And I was still there from 6am til 10am (the doors and processing desks only opened at 7 but the 6am arrival guaranteed my fast exit--- there were over 50 people in the waiting room by 6:15)

Nah, I got a taxi at 5:30, just to be on the safe side-- I had classes later in the day and didnt want to risk a 6 hour wait at the emniyet. Not sure I'd want to camp out in that neighbourhood anyway. Would probably die of carbon monoxide poisoning.
