|

| Hi. I've got an international school in Dubai that requested an interview with me for a position teaching English to elementary school children. But they told me they have no payscale and want to know what kind of package I'm expecting. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to answer that? I have a CELTA and a bachelor's degree in English, some experience working with young children on a volunteer basis, but no teaching experience or education degree. I'm expecting flights and some kind of housing allowance, but I'm not sure what to tell them as far as salary. I have a minimum figure from a language institute, but it's the only number I've got to go on right now. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

The job benefits package can depend on your situation - are you single or married with dependants (for purposes of education of children/medical/accommodation/flights etc which could be included as part of the package)?
Dubai has become very expensive in terms of rental accommodation and you should be aware of this in relation to the housing allowance.
However, an International School with no payscale/package? Makes you wonder how organised they are in other areas! |

Hi 'yavannah'. Would it not help if you named the school so people know which one you are referring to? Maybe someone reading your post already works there and can help you out. That's what Dave's EFL cafe is all about.
However, as PP13 commented any school reluctant to discuss pay with a prospective teacher, makes you think, doesnt it?

| You can PM me with the school, if you prefer not to post the details on the board. Given your experience, I would say that you should expect no more than 7500 dirhams (and that's on the high end)/month plus most likely a shared accommodation. Perhaps, if it was a decent school, you might get a studio provided for you. |

You should be blinded by the flashing of the warning lights.
Forget them. |

Not really... according to your other post, you have no related education, neither a CELTA nor degree... merely a bit of experience which may or may not be related. She has the degrees, but little experience.
If your experience has been years with Arabic speakers, your situation could almost be similar.
But either way, the places that might consider offering are places that mostly abuse teachers and pay little...
