CfBT used to offer a great package for teachers in Brunei, Morocco etc. I know now they are involved in recruitment for Oman and UAE as well as a few other places. Are they a good employer - do they give good support - is the package comparable to what they used to offer?

Try doing a search... their reputations has had its ups and downs. Definitely not the best employer in Oman, but also not the worst.

I just started working for them (well, for them and the Ministry...) in Oman, and they have been wonderful. Financially, sure, there may be better deals both in Oman and in other countries, but as far as support and just getting a sense that they care about their teachers, I have only good things to say about them.

So far, so good. I think I am experiencing the subjective concept of time here, though. A couple of days ago someone from Omantel called me on my cell phone to say "we will come install your landline today." I'm still waiting, so I guess 'today' isn't really a fixed time reference here! Laughing They seem to be having problems finding and getting into my flat, even though a) it's right across the street from Omantel--I can see Omantel from my window, and b) the landlord, who naturally has a spare key, has his office directly below my flat.

And the students are delightful. Very Happy

Omantel is 'usually' good about arriving within a couple of hours of when they say that they will. At least in Muscat... I was amazed that it only took a day to get my phone and internet (dial-up) up and running.

When I got back to the US and was in a posh neighborhood in the Wash DC suburbs, it took Verizon 14 days to get my phone connected... many phone calls... and I finally had to run and catch the stupid man who couldn't be bothered to actually LOOK for the proper box to do the connection.

It seem that in the years I was overseas the US stopped being a first world country... Shocked

Why, is there such a thing as a First World country?
I think, with the rise of China and other countries which are classified as 'Second World' countries are catching up with countries classified as 'First World' countries, and the gap between the two is getting smaller and smaller.

Don't you think so, VS? Laughing

Tim E (country manager) rang and offered me a job there in the summer as part of their Min of Ed project.I know a few people there and I think it comes down to location as Ibri sounds a tip but Salalah worth a look.I don't think the remuneration is that great, however the holidays are excellent.

Certainly CfBT has a good reputation and of course locations in Brunei.......

(MOD edit, please avoid using names)
