Hi!

I am a 32-year old teacher with a husband and an almost-2 year old. My husband and I both have our Master's degrees, though they are not in English. I teach general music at a K-8 school and have degrees in Vocal Performance (BS) and Ethnomusicology (MS). My husband works in an administrative role at the same school and also runs the library.

We are interested in living abroad for a year or two and think that teaching may be the way to go. Are there any teaching abroad programs that look for older teachers and/or can accommodate families? Which programs would you suggest looking into? At this point, we are not picky about where we go. If we can swing it, one person would teach while the other would care for our 2-year old. Or, we could job share and both work part time. We would need a good enough salary to be able to live on one income.

Suggestions? Thanks!

An international school could be an option. Recruiting fairs are held regularly in major cities.

I'm not sure that emcat is a certified teacher so an international school might not be the best option. Emcat, you could try applying for the PNET scheme. If you both got a job you could afford day care for your child. I am sure that you can find someone in Hong Kong to take care of your children who can speak Englsih.

If you are a certified teacher, and even if not certified but with experience teaching in your home country, visit one of the recruitment fairs. The pay will be much better and so will job security, two very important things when it comes to teaching.

I might suggest Thailand if they can get their act together concerning paperwork if you don't want to go on the international circuit. PM me if you want some specifics.
