Yikes, I just realized that one of the papers that came with my FM3 says that I have to register with the secretary of Hacienda & Credito Publico within 60 days. So I have about 13 days left to get this done. Anyone know what this entails?

You have to get a tax number, otherwise known as an RFC number for registro federal de contribuyentes. This entails going to Hacienda which is on Abasolo street, between Corregidora and Aldama streets, 1.5 large blocks south of the plaza de armas downtown. You will have to get some fiscal forms from a papeleria that sells them. I believe it is SAT form "R-1", "SOLICITUD DE INCRIPCION AL REGISTRO FEDERAL DE CONTRIBUYENTES", that you need. You can get fiscal forms at the papeleria beside the back entrance to Woolworths. Hacienda is only open until 2pm I believe, so you have to go early. You go to the information desk straight ahead from the entrance, and show them your papers. If they are in order, they will give you a number to queue for one of the booths on the right hand side of the building, looking towards the entrance from outside. Fiscal forms have to be typed up by typewritter. You might want to get an extra copy at the papeleria so you don't have to go back if there is a big mistake. There are people with typewritters across the street from Hacienda if you can't type it up anywhere else.

Hopefully with this you can get it all done in the 13 days without too much confusion.

Uh, what? I just got my FM3 last week (yee-hah!), and I think all I got with it was a piece of paper that said that they gave it to me. Maybe I should check that out. Let's say, purely theoretically, that I work at one of those schools that pays you in cash every week. What kind of tax situation am I in, as far as Mexico is concerned? Or who do I need to talk to figure out what I need to do? I think I'm a solid intermediate, spanish-wise, if that's relevant. Thanks a grillion.

On the bottom part of that letter there is a paragraph in bold that says you have to register within 60 days. Assuming you got the same letter I did, of course.
