Hi,

im was born in Canada and im 26 years old. My dad and i are planning to go to HK since he was a permanant resident in hk. He was born in Macau but he went to college and work for 20 years in HK. Can he sponsor me some to work in HK legally like a HK ID or the "right to land". He will have to get back his hk id in order to get me in? Im just worried that hk immigration wouldnt approve me to get a hk id or the right to land.

As an English native-speaker a company may get you a visa.

I was in da same positiong as you... I'm also 26 n was born in Canada.

Both my parents were born in HK, so according to some immigration law, first generation Canadians can get a HKID if your parents have HK Permanent ID or birth certification. (I think it has something to to do w/ da year you were born too... i'm not sure). U can ask ur folks to go to HK Immigration to get the forms for applying. To apply, u'd need all your parent's legal documents (birth cert, marriage cert, ur birth cert, their HKID cards etc etc.).

It took them about 5-6 months to process my application. I'm now have a HKID, but our ID will be slightly different from locals... we have to rights to seek employment and work as a HK citizen, but no voting or other benefits, and also require passports to re-enter HK (unlike locals who's only need their HKID) Well... it works well. It's so much easier finding any job in HK with an ID n we might as well take advantage of it! Good luck!
