I was a ESL teacher in China a couple years ago, and found this site to be a wealth of info. I'm back in the States now, but I have a question that I think that's probably best answered by the Dave's crowd Smile. A good friend of mine's son is studying aboard in Amman, Jordan. He doesn't have reliable access to high speed internet, so she's been calling through SkypeOut (Computer to Cellphone in Amman). They're spending way too much on their phone bills--- SkpyeOut about $0.25/minute. Any ideas on cheaper alternatives?

Thanks in advance!!

That is actually the cheapest that I have seen... the same as tracfone international long distance. (the gulf countries are another .10 per minute on both of those...)

Make short calls and use email... that's the easy answer...

Thanks VS (and dmb)! Do you if buying calling cards through the internet are a good deal? It seems like they're charging lower rates ~$0.10-15/min but the connection fees, maintenance fees are somewhat confusing...

Hard to say... read the fine print carefully... (that is rather what tracfone ild is). Why not tell them to try one and see how it works.

It sounds to me like it is time for Mumsy to cut the apron strings. Laughing I expect she is worried about his being in the ME, but as I said, a short call can confirm that he is OK. Or is his mother like mine and afraid of computers?
