This college has come up again and again on this forum. It is not a good p lace to work. I was there a few years ago. I had to leave. It is the only job I have ever walked away from after six years of teaching in China, Japan and Italy. I'm not proud that I did it but there was no other option. Things will never be quite as you want or quite as you think they were explained to you but there is no excuse for this college and the extremely nasty FAO Nancy.
If you trawl back through the forum and look at all the posts concerning this college that should be enough. At the moment i'm sitting back in the UK and mulling my next move.....This is not a rant or an attempt to castigate anybody. I simply find it very frustrating that people are still going to work at this college and finding the problems I encountered three years ago.
In all my time teaching I have never;
Had my passport confiscated
Been verbally threatened
Been told that If i don't toe the line things might turn out rather painful
This might well mean that I've lead a charmed life and if it does then shame on me for bringing this up. I would however like to think that as numerous other people have had less than satisfactory dealings with the college that this could serve as an appropriate warning.
It may not be the worse school in China(i'm sure it's not).
It may not be the worst place to work if you really want to work in Guangdong.( I worked at the infamous Alcanta.....I'd take that over Baiyun in a flash)
It might be great for you!!!...
But just have a think. I've never heard anyone with a good thing to say about the place except the occasional poster on this forum. They might be genuine or they might not.....
So end of sermon and all that.....if you are really thinking about going then I hope this will give you food for thought. There are enough options in Guangdong to reconsider. |

It might be a good idea to consolidate this thread with the one headed "Baiyun Institute" also active at the moment.
And what about having a symbol or code in the heading indicating a negative review? |
