Hi China experts.
I frequently see jobs for teaching Math in China. I assume these are for bilingual high school programs? My question is do they only take Native Speakers for these jobs? My husband has an MA in Math and is very fluent in English. And I might ad, a dynamite teacher. But he's Mexican and English isn't his first langauge. While we have no plans to leave Mexico, he is interested in Asian religions and we would consider the oportunity to live abroad. Would he have any chance at a job teaching Math, in English? Would he be able to get a visa? He is also very "Mexican looking" would that make a difference? I know the Chinese like their English teachers white.
Thanks for your help. I'm really just pondering this, not looking to do it anytime soon. |

Experts? You sure you are on the right forum???
If it helps I have worked with Latinos in China who have taught business, economics, math, and yes even English.
Please come to China, sometimes us men need to see some hot Latinas as we get tired of always just seeing hot chinese babes...
And bring your husband too!
Pretty much the rule seems to be if you can speak English and they need an English speaker you can get a job somewhere...

There are some schools, especially international ones or Chinese ones that prepare their students for the Baccalaureate International, that accept applications from maths teachers who can teach in English as those students have to take their subjects in English. The pay is quite good occasiionally, even reaching western levels.
But your husband will be seriously disappointed by two aspects: there is no spiritual or religious quality to living in China and there exists no Chinese "religion" as such; if he is into Taoism I doubt he can learn much here - Taiwan would be much better.
And ethnic prejudice does sometimes spill into the classroom. Your hubby can, perhaps, overcome that through professionalism and charisma. |
