I see advertised visa services which allow one to purchase any type of visa they like. How is it that they can do this?

Do they open up a company and simply invite any and all people that want to "work" there?

Second, has anyone simply gone to the PSB and done the visa for themselves as opposed to going through a visa agent? what is the price difference?

I heard some people paying 1600 for one type of visa and another 300 for the same thing. What is the actual price of the visa and what is the "profit" that these services are making?

You could trawl up old threads pertaining to the same topic from individuals who enquired where to get their work visas or business-type visas; the answer always is: you get a visa at a hugely marked-up price from a business that illegally uses its privilege of hiring foreign nationals. They in fact commercially sell their right to do that, and you get no legal protection under such visas. Typically, such businesses specialise in FT placement, tourism, consulting, trading, so selling visas is just a sideline. The P.S.B. ought to crack down on these guys!
They are less legitimate than Hong Kong travel agencies selling 'F' visas to undocumentyed applicants (for an 'F' visa you must be documented to obtain it from a Chinese consulate or embassy).
