Anyone know of a decent hotel close to the Luohu crossing?

i have checked some hotel sites and maps but have not made any headway on figuring out where the closest decent hotel might be to the crossing.

Looking for the Shenzhen side of the crossing.

Also is it safe to venture into Shenzhen at this crossing at say, 10 or 11 pm by ones self?

The Shangri la is just over the border. It's safe as it's usually busy. But the usual 'watch your stuff and ignore the touts' warning applies.

Well, the Shangri-La costs at least 1000 kuai a night! And it's not in the safest part of Luohu at all; I keep hearing of muggings, hold-ups and crime involving xiaojies.

There are alternatives:
The HEPING HOTEL on the east side of the railway station, Heping Lu, is a lot cheaper and it's less crowded over there (near the Forum Hotel, another five-star guesthouse). To get there you only have to take an escalator outside the customshouse, then walk on the footbridge across the railway tracks and walk down on the far side and another 200 meters north along Heping Lu.

However, the HEPING is an ugly and old structure; if you want a more modern hotel room for less than 200 yuan a night, I would recommend the two hotels (can't remember their names) on the east side of Renmin Nanlu, between Jiabin Lu and Shennan Donglu, about 3 blocks north from the Shangri-La.
These hotels are relatively nice, very clean, with western-style bathroom and cost under 200 (depending on bargaining skills, I suppose).
There is a KFCalmost next door and you are not far from Luohus' main shopping arcades and malls.

Funny you should mention the Heping, I lived there in 2000.
I was over there last week. The place has been completely renovated.
