As I start to plan for my exit from Oman, I'm trying to consider how best to get things home economically. When I've left other countries I've generally mailed it home in a box from the local postal service. I'd like to do the same here but I've had things arrive here in the mail from overseas very late as have others I know.
I'm wondering if others who've left or sent things home can share any advice with me regarding this. For the record, couriers like DHL etc. are out of the question for me as they're incredibly expensive.
cheers, HG |

It depends on how much you have. I found the post there very dependable, if not speedy.
If you have more than one small box, I would check with a shipping company and have it air freighted... that is quite reasonable per kilo. I used Circle Freight, but I believe that the new purchasers of the company no long do individual shipping, but they could probably recommend someone if you can't find a friend that knows someone.
I always air freighted my stuff in and out of the various Gulf countries with no problems.

VS, I would expect to have one medium sized box. Would you use the mail system or stick with an air freight company? |

Check out airfreight and shipping charges with the cargo companies. Shipping charges by percentage of a container (I think the smallest you get is 4ft by 4ft) so I would think for a hundred kilos or so airfreight would be cheaper (maybe around $3-$4 a kilo. |

Hsinchuguy, if you have a bit of time to prepare for the great escape, it's probably wise to consider all options. There are several well-priced freight services to the UK, India and other sources of Oman's foreign labour. Some are listed in the newspapers (try the Times, Trib and Observer and especially The Week, which you can easily get in Muscat). Others are tucked away behind Mutrah Souq, where you may have to prove you're not a tourist for better rates.
Leaving Las Vegas (aka gypsey TEFLing) is no mean feat. The Force be with you. |

Cheers Kuberkat for your warm wishes, but I've done it before. I escaped from Taiwan last year. It's not as hard as you might think. *beep* it, it's only life. I will check out Mutrah and Ruwi for cheap shipping options |
