What would all of you recommend as an acceptable base salary for an experienced E.S.L. teacher (Over 6 yrs.) in Taipei..and outside Taipei? I'm really curious. Of course, some schools add in extra money per month for attendance bonus, housing (much more common outside of Taipei) etc.
Thank you! |

Actually I would avoid a salary altogether and go for a wage. In the last few years most benefits from most schools has dwindled away making salaried jobs very undesirable. I would say 600 NT an hour for a teacher with any experience is acceptable. You could factor in some aspects like housing into your contract but again you might be better off sorting this one out on your own. |

650NT per hour would be my suggestion in Taipei. I really think 600 is a bit low. |

Experience as a teacher in Taiwan counts. Experience in other countries probably won't count for much in terms of salary/wages. |

550-600 is the reality for new (to Taiwan) teachers. This is especially true at the larger schools. You may find up to 650 for other work permit jobs, but it's not as common.
Also, the higher salaries generally also come with working at smaller schools. That comes with a variety of other factors, both postive and negative. |
