Actually, I was more wondering if anyone has an idea of some cool GLBT places to hang out.
I've found a few in Umeda. Living in Namba and wondering where some Lesbian-friendly bars are around this area. Have heard that the area North of OCAT and near Dotonbori are pretty good.
Any ideas?

This is a little off-topic, but...

Original Poster, there's a typo in your signature.
wraith = a kind of ghost
wrath = anger/violence

FYI.

Apart from Doyama, I don't know of any other areas of Osaka where there's a large gay community..... well, large for Japan.

I would just like to add much praise for the best topic heading I've ever read. Excellent stuff!! Laughing

I'm not clearl on why you took offense to someone correcting your spelling...? You're probably in Japan as an English teacher, so I would have expected you to want to appear aas knowledgeable about English as possible.

For example, even though you may not be shopping for a job today, you may in the future...and if an employer remembers you as "that person with the bad spelling in her sig", it wouldn't help your chances.

------
Getting back on topic-- for searching out the local gay/bi scene, you'd probably be better off finding out if there's a local message board (on the Net or in a local international center) where you can ask local foreigners.
When I lived in Hiroshima, for example, I don't think there were any specifically gay/les groups or pubs, but I do recall seeing lots of ads looking for like-minded community & friends, in the local online forum.

As for locals, I think the community tends to be MUCh more secretive in general, compared to a Western society. Japan's people are in general so afraid of appearing outside-the-mainstream that people will even marry at 30 just to appear normal, and stay married (to appear normal) even when they truly hate their spouses & date heavily on the side.

I think whether there's a club or pub will depend very very much on the size and degree of anonymity in the area where you live. Probably Tokyo, for example, would have a little bit of everything, and as a foreigner you'd probably get quite a lot of positive attention. Rural communities or even semi-suburban areas will probably have nothin'.

Getting back off-topic for a minute, I was under the impression that both SuperJo and TokyoLiz's sigs were purposely written the way they were to illustrate the "Engrishness" that we encounter every day... At least, I think they make much more sense when taken that way.

All spelling and vocab out of the way...

Thank you guys for the input.

Osaka seems like it has a decent number of places I can try out.

Oh..well, if JimDunlo2 is right, then I withdraw the commentary.

As for my own spelling, I've got a major flu today, so I'm just happy to be typing at all. However, for my permanent SIG, my proofreading standards would be much higher.

That would be Jim Dunlop with a "p." I'm sure he'd appreciate that.

Seems like your proofreading standards should be a bit higher when referring to another person by name.

(Sure is annoying when people call you out on your spelling, huh?) Wink
