I went for an interview with Language Systems Japan otherwise known as Nihon Language Systems or LSJ.
The guy who met me was about 70 years old and wearing hair dye and a suit. He shook my hand really hard so much that it hurt. He was late and the strangest thing is that he met me outside Chiba station not in an office or anything.
He couldnt speak English wery well but thats normal for japanese anyway. He said his name is Sekiguchi and was very nice. He said we will go to a coffee shop and started walking about 15 minutes to a coffee shop he then interviewed me for an hour but didnt really explain much apart from money and hours. Then he said he is interested but wouldnt sign anything. He then said hed call me.
So later on he calles me and asks me to come for another interview. I was expecting to go to an office but I went back to some coffee shop. On the way he asked me to withdraw 30.000 yen from a bank to pay him to work for him. I told him no way and to get lost and he pretended to be hurt and suprised. Anyway I left and I think that LSJ is just a scam. I think they meet people and ask them for money for me it was 30.000 yen. If LSJ interviews 100 people which is easy they could make 3 million yen by doing a 100 interviews. Warning dont fall for this scam.

The way you describe that scenario is almost comical.
I wonder how often that actually works.

I can perfectly picture the look he must have given you when you told him to bugger off.

Ahh yes, Sekiguchi and LSJ. This guy is somewhat infamous in the Tokyo/Chiba area. There are usually some posts on gaijinpot about him & his company, but they get pulled because he advertises there or something. Stay away.

Have you considered reporting this to the police?

If it weren't for the fact that you'd applied with personal details to get the first interview, you could've beaten 30,000 yen out of HIM for wasting your time (and would've been justified in doing so, if you ask me). Like Jim says, if you've got an hour or two spare, why not see what the police think of it all?

Somehow I tend to think he could get arrested if you did -- sounds like one of those old "Ore, Ore" scams where thieves phone random obaachans, pretending to be long-lost, distant relatives (or friends) claiming to be in trouble and getting the victims to send them cash...

Same thing -- dude's pretending to be an employer, trying to get people to give him cash.

Fluffy's idea is brilliant though. Blackmail the summabitch to give YOU 30,000 to stop you from going to the cops....

Oh, I wasn't thinking blackmail, Jim, just something that bit more direct (Ye Olde Arte of Head-Buttinge), but now that you mention it, blackmail would probably beat literally beating the money out of him, and could even be as much fun, for all I know. Very Happy

This post is misleading. The OP in fact did take a job with this company. The 30,000 yen isn't a scam. It is still illegal, but there is in fact a job, and the money is refunded to the worker after a few months. I wish the OP wouldn't liberties with the truth because I don't want to be put in a position to defend this company.

You don't have to defend them but you seem to know a little more information that could be useful to others.

There are companies that ask you to pay up front for "registration", certain agencies are notorious for this. But even they very rarely arrange for some clandestine-sounding meeting at a train station before hustling you off to a coffee shop. The behaviour is certainly suspicious enough. Frog-marching you to an ATM is bizarre.

Why didn't this guy want the OP to see his office?

How do you, guest of japan, know the OP did in fact get a job with this company?

I'm a little intrigued by your post and I doubt I'm the only one.

This might shed some light on the subject:

This is a true story so keep it up here to warm people of this guy and his company LSJ.
He charges people 30.000 yen to join the company.
The company is run from Dutour Coffee Shop in Chiba there is no office the address his gives is his house and you are not allowed to go there.
The company is not registered.
He has not paid many people including me he owes me 200.000 yen still.
He will not tell you when your holidays are so that he can wait till you want to take a vacation and then deduct money from you.
The contract is illegal its the worst I have seen.
Stay away from them you will find out what he is like at the interview and if you do take a job after meeting him you must be crazy.

Here's thread it came from:

It was asked in the other thread, but I gotta ask it here:
Why the #$&% would you pay 30000 yen to work for this guy's company?!?

Oh and fyi, here is the company's homepage:
http://www.lansys.co.jp/

And their native teacher recruiting page:
http://www.lansys.co.jp/jobs&recruit.html

I'm tempted to apply just to see what kind of a tool this guy really is.... I also want to see the look of shock and awe when I completely reject his request for 30000 yen to work for him - lol.

Thanks for shedding that light Venti and apologies to guest of Japan. I even posted on that thread.

I see tigerwood gave me the old "we had to eat the flies out of dead babies" routine on the other thread. Obviously couldn't think of anything original.
