Hello all,

In another year I'll be finishing school and am very interested in teaching English abroad. I studied in Germany for a while after High school and tutored English while there. It was a lot of fun, but now I'd like to try the whole Asian thing.

When I finish school I'll have a BA(Economics) & an MA(Interdisciplinary in Economics & Social Thought) which I got from an accelerated BA/MA program at New York University (NYU). I'll also have completed my TESOL cert from Columbia University's Teacher's College. I'll be 29 years old. I'm a Caucasian male, if that matters. I'm allergic to Peanuts.

So, my questions are: Where in Asia would you recommend? Where are the best job prospects and or opportunities? What kind of salary should I expect? Housing?

I'm looking at Japan, but am still considering others such as China, Thailand, etc. I may apply to the Peace Corps. and see if that works out. Anyone know of other good programs for someone in my situation to which I should apply? Any advice?

Thanks,
Josh

You sound like qualified and a good candidate to teach English overseas, although you'd have to be very careful in Thailand with a peanut allergy. You should research which country you want to teach in. You could try looking at my website below to get an overview of the popular countries for English teachers in Asia and it includes what you can expect in terms of salary and working conditions.

You sound like a perfect candidate for the JET Programme.
