10 years ago I left Medan. There was an English man there by the name of Nick. He claimed to be 34 at the time......though thinking back he did look a bit old to be 34 Smile

He was teaching English on a tourist visa, but had been there for a few years. He also opened up a small restaurant on the outskirts of Medan with his gf Hatie...a real local type of place, on the road to Buki Lawag I believe.

I've often wondered about what happened to him. He was a painter and decorater back in England, but didnt want t go back as he had nothing to go back to. He started me on the road to ruin, I mean TEFL and in a way I owe him a big thanks.

Hi,
I know OF this guy though I have never met him myself. He was always around Medan or Bukit Lawang with his gf. I think they had a baby. I know they built a really nice house on the road to Bukit Lawang that they were trying to sell a while back.
I have a feeling they might have gone to England for a bit.
Sorry it's not much information, but it's all I've got!

Sid, you posted that in 2004 and now is 2007. I don't know if this is too late. May be you've met him by now.
If this would help, I know Nick. He's my friend and was my dad's best friend. He's still in Medan. I haven't visited him for 2 years but I just called him a week ago (How ironic in 2004 I went to his place a lot but didn't check your post here). He's still teaching English and Asti is his wife now. They married around 8 years ago). They have a cute son named William. If you want, I could call him and tell him an old friend wants to keep in touch. Just tell me your real name, a little about your background, where and how you met and in what way he's influenced your life (Gosh..sounds like an essay). I think he's 45 now..That would make him...33 or 34 when you met him Very Happy
