Good Day,

I am interested in coming to Mexico to teach. I have taught in Hong Kong, Korea and the Philippines and would welcome the change. I havea few questions though. Most of the jobs I have found are with agencies whom charge you a placement fee. Is this the norm for Mexico? Also have any of you driven your car from the States and kept it in Mexico to drive? Any suggestions on where to look for a job? Is it possible to find a job that pays $800-$1000 a month fairy easy?

I haven't been here long and I'm sure the other posters will chime in soon. There are many topics on working in Mexico and the wages though if you do a search.

It is very possible to find a salary like that and higher, although my husband and I are doing a lot of private classes so I'm not an expert on salary. I wouldn't suggest a placement service as it's not really necessary and they will charge you a fee. You didn't say if you have a degree or TEFL cert or both but I'm assuming from the places you worked that you have one of the above??

Mikhai, There are no norms in Mexico. Just check out most of the threads, there is always a that depends in there somewhere! Laughing

However, you don't need to use a placement agency to find a job in Mexico. There are lots of jobs posted on the internet and a lot of people recommend choosing a city, showing up and starting to look for work.
As long as you are well qualified and have experience, finding a job for 8k-10k pesos a month shouldn't be a problem. State universities pay around 10K a month after taxes.

As for the car, I drove mine to Mexico and haven't had any problems, except for a lovely welcome by the police in Ciudad del Carmen Evil or Very Mad

and that was after 12,000km and 5 months of driving. The public transport system in most cities is very good and you might find that you don't need a car. It really depends on where you plan on living. If you choose DF, leave your car at home....

I hold a BS in Linguistics and Educational Pschology. I am also certified to teach ESL and Spanish in the US and I hold a Diploma in TESOL from Trinity College London. Does anyone know how to apply for Universities in Mexico? I have been looking around a lot however I can't find anything that really pays well. What are the normal hiring times of the year? I currently work at Korea University and Hankuk Aviation University in Korea. I have been employed for the past two years here and they aren't wanting me to leave. However I have just had a little too much of Korea for the time being and need a break from it. What websites are good for checking out employment in Mexico?
