Are expats allowed to drive their own cars to Bahrain?

You can drive your car from Saudi to Bahrain, via the causeway, provided that you get a permission slip from the Saudi "DMV" Office. My car was a lease so I had to get an approved stamped permission from my leasor. Then, it had to be approved through the Chamber of Commerce. This is to make sure that your car was not involved in a crime and that you are not trying to flee the country. The Saudis have to do this as well except that they only have to go through the approval process every 6 months while expats have to get approval every 3 months.

How about crossing the causeway in car loads of mixed but unmarried people?
Likely to be any problems leaving or re-entering the Kingdom?

I had a leased car, and was only obliged to renew the permit from the leasing company after 12 months. Has it changed?
