|

Anyone know much about Nagareyama City? That's where I was told my Nova apartment would be. On Google maps, that appears a bit away from everything, but maybe that's a bit misleading? It's $590/month. I never expected to be placed in Shibuya or anything, but Nagareyama does look far away.
I looked into gaijin houses a bit before when I was thinking of heading straight there without a job. I remember them having comparable prices, except being closer to the heart of the city. I'm thinking of going with them or one of the apartments more friendly to foreigners (no key money), if Nova lets me. Anyone have suggestions? |

Nagareyama City in Chiba is about the same distance from Asakusa, Tokyo as Kawasaki City is from Shibuya, Tokyo. Kawasaki to Shibuya is about 30 mins by train, not a bad trip at all. I'm not sure about train stations in Nagareyama, but there'll probably be one that's not too far away from your apartment. Nagareyama to Shibuya might take up to an hour by train, but that's just because Shibuya is on the far side of Tokyo from Nagareyama.
Anyway, take the NOVA apartment until you've been here for a bit and have gotten your bearings. NOVA will probably let you bail on your NOVA apartment when you want to. |

Take the NOVA place. Start thinking in yen, not dollars. After a month or two and you don't like the place, give your notice and move. |

Yeah, start in the NOVA apartment. There are lots of housing options around Asakusa so you can move there after you adjust to Japan and start being able to find your way around. |
