|
|
This weekend, I'm intending to come to Bangkok and try to show up in some of the big private teaching centers, there. Could you give me some schools names and areas in the capital
Any other advices, regarding teaching in Bangkok, are welcomed.
Thanks,

Some of the big names are ECC, In Lingua, EF, and Wall Street. ECC has the main branch in Siam Square, and the others are along BTS stations near Sukumvit and Silom Road.
I know for sure that ECC and In Lingua need certification, preferably the CELTA course. Not sure about the others. From talking to people in the area, the average salary runs between 30,000 to 40,000 baht a month, around 25 teaching hours.
I'd love to come back and teach in Bangkok later on, as I had a fabulous time doing my training here. Friendly people, great weather, and low cost of living. Ah, Thailand, good memories here. But I've got committments in China so I'm heading back for the next school year. Perhaps next summer I'll be back in BKK.

Struelle,
What are you on about? ECC need certification!!!....what utter nonsense. They are THE sweatshop in Thailand. You can get a job there and all you need is a pulse.....English skills are not required (it's one of the few places where Russians with very thick accents can get work). ECC pay around 250 Baht an hour, you'll be hard pressed to earn over 30,000 Baht.
Inlingua and EF aren't bad, but again I know EF does not require certification (they may prefer it).
Drop me an e-mail ([email protected]) I've got the address or a link to pretty much every school in Thailand. |

Maybe you're right, but ECC was where I did my CELTA course. The head teacher at the main branch told me they hired graduates directly from the course. I assumed this to mean teachers needed certification. It would be silly if the same place that issues certificates also hires low-calibre teachers who don't need them, but maybe that's how it works.
Then again, from what I found, the CELTA department was completely detached from the rest of ECC, and they were accountable to Cambridge instead. The head trainer even mentioned that ECC is run by Thai managers, and they don't know what's going on in the classrooms half the time!
If it's true about the low standards of ECC, then I question why Cambridge would choose such a location to run the CELTA course. It was advertised that the main branch of ECC was the best place to do the course in SE Asia.
