|
|
I am curious about visa regulations for working in Macau if I do get offered a job there. I have found info on China visas/work permits but not specific to Macau- are they the same or different?
I am mostly concerned about the type of visa my husband could get and what kind of work he could do (if there is no legal work available to give him sponsership- what kind of visa would he get as a spouse and could he teach privately or study if he wanted to?)
thanks |

I can't tell you what they are but they are different to China, as is Hong Kong.
I travel between China and Macau frequently (as a visitor to Macau). I don't need a visa to go to Macau as a visitor. I imagine you would need one as a worker. |

But you do need a current RP..right...
When last down that way..I took the ferry to Macao and my RP was sufficient

This would be left up to the org that is providing you with your visa..are they willing to sponsor him as a spouse...a student visa would require an institution able to request visas and enrollment...and because visa's are job specific..he would not be allowed to legally work without an attachment to a work unit... |

You should ask that your prospective hirer since no FTs are known to be Macau-based as of now; the situation of NETS in HONG KONG, for example, is quite specific:
They must be hired by a legal recruiter in the name of a school; the visa is then issued by the Chinese embassy abroad. Dependants' visas are granted with no hassles.
But legal employment of spouses can be restricted; in HK a ban on spouses' working on their own has recently been lifted; I don't know about Macau.
That means your husband may have to scour the labour market in Macau on his own. Or you have to share your income with him...
He might end up working as an FT in ZHUHAI but I have to warn you - crossing the border daily is a strain and quite costly (new passport every once in a while!).
I doubt the Chinese embassy in your country can help since they do not decide on Macau's behalf; they only issue the visa after being requested to do so by Macau. |

Maybe to return to China. To got to Macau I only need my passport. Same as Hong Kong. Coming from anywhere, landing in Macau I only need my passport. |

Hi-
I can give the op a little bit more info. The visa rules are definitely different and most importantly.. unlike the mainland most employers in Macau don't take care of the visa procurement for you. You have to go to the office, take a number, and take care of it yourself. Most civil servants speak English, if you don't speak Cantonese.
You will need your school transcripts.

I believe the OP is looking to work at an international school in Macau so that would be different. I'd suggest the OP should be asking these questions to the actual school as only they can give any specific answers. |

I am looking at an international school. I was hoping to know what was going on before I go into the interview- but alas it seems that visas and permits are complicated!
Not a surprise.
