Hello TEFLers.

I'm wondering if I will at all be able to buy flaxseed in Istanbul (persons of the British persuasion may be able to recognize flaxseed as linseed).

Flaxseeds are little brown seeds known for their omega-3 fatty acid content, and I'd like to know whether I should bring some in my suitcase, or will actually be able to purchase them in Istanbul.

On a related note, are there any "health food" type stores in Istanbul? I know that's a little silly but I know I'll have the need for supplements and other such things.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to bring them. But you never know!

yeah yeah yeah, there loads of health shops and places to buy vitamins and herbs and minerals. I for one take so many that I rattle when I walk. It's part of my morning ritual, right after my enema.

You can find all that kind of stuff here. There is a health food store in the centre of town on Kallavi sok. (just past Galatasaray lisesi) That sort of stuff is expensive though. Best to stick to Efes- it kills all known germs.

Cool. At least now I know where to go if I have a question about booze. Y'all appear to be experts.

Actually speaking of which I'd love to know if there are ANY microbreweries in Turkey ... the Efes monopoly is depressing if you're used to a panoply of delicious, local beers crafted with love (who couldn't love beer?!). One does become a mite spoiled after living in a city with the highest per capita of microbreweries in the States ...

Wait, I forgot, there are choices - Efes, or Efes "Dark"! Yes!

Taps in Nisantasi does some lovely beers. The master brewer is actually German.... and well you can tell. He has quite a few different brews and the first time you go it is worth getting a tray of shots to find the one you like the best.... the food here is also quite good.

Does one snort, smoke or swallow midgets?

One would think giant spliffs were more popular.

I was gonna say 'midget blunt,' but after the organist thread it seemed off-color...
