Florence is in Tuscany, Torino is in Piedmont.
Florence is further south than Torino.
Torino has a larger population than Florence.
Florence has better galleries to see Renaissance art, but Torino is excellent for contemporary art.

I spent 3 weeks in Torino summer 2006- the architecture is quite nice, but nothing like the marvels of Florence. Torino is near the mountians, and relatively calm.... nothing to write home about.
