|
|
Hi all,
I am accepting a job in Bali, starting soon. Anyone have any experience of living there long term? I have visited many times but never spent longer than a few weeks. Am interested in any info about prices, housing, hang out spots, surfing, diving, travelling, things to do, transport, average salaries, tips, etc. Anything you got...
Sincerely appreciated, boys and girls... |

Does anyone have any info whatsoever? thx for the pm papillon
But seriously, I've been in Indonesia for two years and have been to Bali a few times. I realize there are lots of irritating idiots, but I don't find "jiggy jig, cheap price" and "taxi, mister" any more irritating than being insulted to my (and my girfriends) face in sunda. There are good and bad people everywhere.
Can anyone else tell me anything more than what can be learned vacationing there? In other words, more than I already know. I don't have any starry eyed ideas about the "land of the gods", I just want realistic info about life there, since I'm moving. |

Okay, what exactly do you want to know? The cost of things? Attitudes of the people? Places to eat, drink, and be obnoxious? Let us know. |

I suppose mostly about costs and general teaching atmosphere, as well as places to hang out and housing info. As for costs, I'm currently living in Bandung. Wondering how much housing and living there is relative to here. Am used to a fairly basic lifestyle, except on weekends.
Suppose original post was too general, but honestly would be happy with whatever people have to tell me, besides that there are touts and people will think I'm a tourist.
Thanks very much for your help |

If you're not interested in specifically Balinese cultural pursuits, living in Bali won't be that much different than living in Bandung -- except for the proximity of the beaches and surfing and the number of outlets for expat entertainment. Costs will be higher in Bali only if you choose to indulge yourself in the amenities it offers -- more and fancier eating establishments and living arrangements.
There will be many more things for you to do in Bali if your interests are in surfing, diving, clubbing, foreign music groups, and hanging out with other expats. |

Thanks to everyone for your posts. Any info is always helpful as it is kind of hard to find out about living in Bali. Everything sounds good and I'm excited to be moving. As for where I'm working I'd rather not post but it is one of the biggies. For more info, pm please. |

Good for you Pep, I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as the rest of us here do.. On a sidenote, Bali has not seen any of the damage Jakarta has from the floods, very odd climatical differences between Java and Bali, no rain here for the last week or so and only a light shower at night a week ago..
PM me when you get here and I'll buy you a beer. |

You might want to check out the Bali Expat forum for information on living in Bali at http://www.bali-information.com/expat_forum. You'll find more information than you can imagine there. |

Thanks so much to all you friendly folk who answered this. Much appreciated, might see some of you in a couple weeks. Thanks very much too for that last link. Very helpful. As for rain Bandung seems to still be getting the fallout from JKT...
