Ghost is taking up an offer to teach at a teacher training institute in Korea at the end of March, but would still like to explore the possibility of teaching in Indonesia, where the proximity of beaches and the general more relaxed lifestyle would be compensation compared with higher Korean salaries (with the attendant additional stress engendered from those higher expectations in Korea).

Also, how easy would it be for a quick 3 day visit from Seoul to Jakarta, and how expensive?....Indonesia appears to be about 5-6 hours away by plane?

How many of you have taught in Korea, then decided to take a pay cut to move and teach in Indonesia, and how would you compare the two countries in general?

Ghost, currently ESL teacher (grades 1-6) French Montreal school board

How do you know the winning lottery ticket number?
How do you score at the casino?
How do you learn to suceed?

Ghost, if you want a simple, predictable life? Stay home!

Part of the ESL teaching thing is experiencing the unexpected.
Is that what you really want?

i think you would be surprised just how easy it is. i've decided to break it down for you in an effort to fully answer the questions asked.

step 1. buy a plane ticket
step 2. get on the same plane that you previously bought the ticket for. don't panic at this point. should you accidentally try to board the wrong plane, there are people at the airport that should pick up on this and direct you to your correct gate number.
step 3. sit in the seat as shown on the ticket you bought.

now relax.... the plane should "take off" shortly and now you get to watch movies or listen to music for the next 5 hours!!!!

step 4. get off the plane and remain with the herd of MOD EDIT as to avoid getting lost on the 300 meter straight walk to the immigration desks
step 5. overpay by a massive amount to get a taxi into the city
step 6. find a hotel room within your budget
step 7. now look at the clock and start to think about how much effort you have put forth for your 3 (almost 2 now) day holiday in jakarta. don't panic, it will normal for frustration or letdown to set in at this point.
step 8. wander the streets.... feel free to randomly enter one of the cities numerous "malls" and notice that except ( in most cases) for the quality of products, they are the same as any other mall in any other country.
step 9. get drunk....get very, very drunk. the locals will expect you to and by now you will want to.
step 10. take the cute little thing that has been filling your beer glass ( usually when it doesn't need it) back to your lodgings for a tour of the place. maybe she would like to stay???
step 11. wake up, find that your i-pod is missing and then immediately repeat steps 7 - 10.
step 12. repeat steps 2 - 4

once back in seoul, go directly to the nearest clinic and get something for that "burning sensation".

i can't tell you how expensive it would be but with fun like this, who cares about the price, right?
