According to an article in todays' Arab News, 2,500 EFL teachers are set to be replaced with Saudis. What does anyone think -will this proposal go the way of the recent Saudiization drive in the taxi businees (Ie, all talk and no action)? Or will we all be out of jobs soon? There was also mention of employing non native Asian teachers of English. Budget cuts, perhaps?
BTW, the article also talked about 'tailoring books to suit the cultural traditions of the Kingdom". Then, of course, they are all patting themselves on the back for their 'far sighted' decision to introduce English in the sixth grade of primary school. |

Government schools. The expansion of English teaching will more than make up for the jobs lost.
Most Saudis with really good English aren't too interested in teaching anyway. |

Has that old chestnut really been circulating again? Wow. It's been five years since the green sheet reported that (in five years) women would be able to drive in KSA.
Faisal, we hardly knew ya. |
