I found a site that I think would be very useful for many people on this forum. If you're looking for kanji flash cards, the JLPT Kanji Project is an excellent site. http://www.jlpt-kanji.com/

They offer a printable version, or you can study on the website. What's really great, is that they also offer kanji for higher levels. They have all the kanji need for levels 4,3,2 and 1.

For the printable version, follow these steps:

Study > Choose your level on the right > View characters in set (All sets together) > Print icon on the right

More Info and Help

The JLPT Kanji Project is kanji study tool and vocabulary builder which groups content according to JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) levels. The JLPT level system does a nice job of breaking down the language into four learning steps. If you are working towards the JLPT exam, or following an alternative study path, you may find the resources here useful.

One of the main features of this site is the ability to save kanji and vocabulary to your own folder. If you study Japanese in several locations, you can take your study list with you where you go. From your folder, you can study vocabulary or kanji with random flash cards, generate printable lists, and various other options.

To get started with kanji study, browse the full kanji for each level, or go to the study section where you can select a level and view lists or flash-cards of kanji broken down into study size chunks. These chunks are ordered from most common to least common characters, so you won't find yourself wading though endless 'useful', but seldom used kanji, to get to the ones that turn up most often. If you are uncertain of where to start, begin with set 1, view the full list several times, then move to the random drill section, and use the site just like a normal set of flash cards.

This site is an ongoing project. At the moment there are still a number of bugs, but slowly they are being addressed. Once these problems have been fixed, several more study tools are in the pipeline to be added.

And a few keywords for people that might find this by using the search function.

1 kyu, 2 kyu, 3 kyu, 4 kyu, kanji, study Japanese, free, flash cards

Thanks to Canuck for the links. Osakajojo, damn you are right! Very addictive. Not sure my boss would appreciate it as much as I do, seeing as I just spent 45 minutes messing about on that site:) Cheers.

I think this is the best site going these days to study Japanese for the JLPT.

You can create your own schedule, have emailed updates and more. Good luck.

There are flash cards for Katakana and Hiragana.

But I think the best way to learn Katakana and Hiragana is through this book. It takes a weekend to learn.

You can find it at most bookstores in Japan that sell Japanese learning material.
