Hi,

I may be working in Naucalpan and I need to find a school close enough to make this work. I've done the research and found some schools, but I'm not sure which of the areas below, if any, are close to where I'd be working.

Colonia Nueva Santa Mara
San ngel
Axomiatla
Lomas de Chapultepec
Col. Polanco
Tlacopac
Coyoacn
Col. Jardines del Pedregal
Colonia Las Americas
Colonia Guadalupe Inn, Delegacin lvaro Obregn

3-hour round-trip commutes via train/bus within metropolitan/urban areas are what my family and I are used to where we come from originally (I've found that commuting brings out the bookworm in us), and I speak Spanish well enough to blend in, so no worries about "scaring" me Wink .

Thanks,
K.

In and out of Naucalpan via public transport is done through metro Cuatro Caminos (also called Torreo). That means a bus into and out of that station...how long depends on where in Naucalpan. You'll need a combination of bus/metro, bus/metro/bus, or bus/bus (at least 2).

San Angel, Pedgregal, Coyoacan, and Lomas are all the farthest points from Naucalpan in your list (though if you had a car, Lomas-Naucalpan would be easy).

Nueva Santa Maria is relatively close...easy access along a major avenue.

I can't find Axomiatla...

Tlacopac is somewhat distant, in the southwest, but transport straight up Periferico should be easy.

Las Americas is the closest, though transport in and out is not so easy for being so suburbia.

Guadalupe Inn is much like Tlacopac...south but accessible from Periferico.

Naucalpan is a residential suburb in the Estado de Mexico, off of the periferico (major highway) in the North West part of Mexico City. It's located between Ciudad Satelite (which has a lot of schools, including English language schools), Arboledas (a nicer residential neighbourhood) and Atizapan de Zaragoza, where you would find the Tec de Monterrey.
One way to get around the area is to go on a micro bus down the Periferico to Cuatro Caminos (as Guy mentioned) but I find it easier to take buses that go to the Auditorio metro stop, which brings you to Chapultapec Park/Polanco. Naucalpan area is horrible for traffic, however, so if you wanted to teach outside of it, be prepared to sit for hours with everybody else on the highway.

I live very close to Naucalpan, in Mexico State. I commute by bus to the DF (near Santa Fe) 3 days a week. It takes between 60-90 minutes in the morning depending on traffic. I wouldn't want to do this 5 days a week. I would recommend checking out all of the schools in and around Naucalpan. There are a lot of K-12 schools with English programs. In Satelite their are branches of Wall Street, Berlitz, Interlingua, Quick Learning, Ingles Individual, Anglo Americano, and others.

If I'm following right, Kdaca is looking for an English medium school for her child, she has a job lined up in Naucalpan. I wonder how many years she is thinking of staying, I'd be more inclined to put my own children in a mixed language school, because I would want them to learn Spanish quickly. But I don't know all the factors envolved in her decision, maybe her child already speaks Spanish better than English (like my own children) and she wants an English medium school to force them to keep their English up?

The only school that is close (quite close, Toreo) and completely English is Greengates. Its based on the British education system and has fabulous facilities. Many people consider it to be the best school in Mexico City. However, its very expensive and strict. I think it goes from primary to high school.
The American school is also completely English, located in Colonia Las Americas (across from the ABC Hospital). It has an excellent reputation too, but thats not close. I think all of these schools have a transportation system, Id be surprised if they didnt.
Another option which is in Lomas Verdes (the colonia after Satlite), is a school called Centro Escolar Patria. Many of my Mexican friends went there, recieving both a Spanish and English education. They describe it as having small classes, good teachers, not too strict and not too relaxed.

Right,

I'm looking for a private, k-12 school for my son. I want him to receive a good education under the British or American system, as he's been exposed to both flavors. He's young and has been exposed to some Spanish, so acheiving bilingualism once we're there won't be a concern for me.

Thanks for all the feedback!
