Okay, I can't take it anymore!

The nasty turn this forum has taken lately is unfortunate. I've been reading for a few months now, and have enjoyed following the threads and learning about what it's like to work in Japan. However, the increase in attacks, unfounded accusations, criticisms, sarcasm, nit-picking and pettiness is really turning me off.

I understand that people have differences in opinion, this much is granted. But conducting oneself in a civilized manner gets you so much further!

Positive vibes:

Working in Japan gives people the chance to try their hand at aspects of TEFL teaching which they otherwise would not have.

The food is amazing.

Japan has more national holidays than any other country on earth and they don't all fall on a Monday.

Many eikaiwa's are a joy to work in.

You can save money.

Onsens are amazing

Even if you are bald, fat and ugly some pretty ladies will think you look like Tom Cruise.

"Lets be positive" or "stop being negative"

is the plaintive call of the recruiter.

The recuiters have a harder time selling people on Japan if there are postings that reflect what an unregulated industry is like. That is, the English teaching industry.

Currently, hundreds of new university graduates are spending thousands of dollars to English teaching certicate companies which guarantee job placements.

One huge lie from recruiters is that medicare is provided in Japan. That is completely false! There was an industry wide investigation by the Japanese government of all the English schools in Japan for not enrolling teachers into the national health care plan (shakai hoken).

Japan is the only country I know of that does not do this. Taiwan will enroll its teachers. And South Korea will enroll its teachers. They may try to trick you and not actually pay into the program sometimes. But Japanese companies as a rule, do not enrol foreign teachers in medicare!

It is a outrageous. And if recruiters keep lying to people that they are enrolled, well gues what, you will get some criticism.

Nova, the largest school in Japan and the largest single employer of foreigners in Japan (over 5000 teachers) does not enroll its teachers into medicare. Now, they might say we enroll full-time teachers into medicare and then say, "Oh, by the way full-time means 40 hours a week. And Jane Smith actually does teach 40 hours."

According to Social Insurance Law, part-timers (75% or less hours of a full-time employee) need not be enrolled. So the company plays a trick of having one employee who works 40 hours and the rest work 30 hours or less.

Ain't that great! Lets be positive about cheaters! They're so darn cute!

Thank you Macondo.

It's a shame what has happened to this forum. A couple of years ago, people could come here to get information about teaching English in Japan. Now all they get is the angry rantings of people who should have gone home a long time ago. Dare say anything positive about teaching in Japan, and you MOD EDIT accusing you of being a recruiter in disguise.

There are a lot of people on this forum who should just shut up and go back home (but they don't because they know that no one in their right mind would hire them).

To those of you who are yet to come to Japan, don't pay any attention to these people. Japan is amazing. Come here and teach English. You'll love it.[/b]

How about you stop hijacking threads and create some of your own, for some of your issues.

Im sure you have some great points youd like to get across but do it in YOUR OWN topic.

Im getting tired of reading topics that have been derailed by your own personal frustrations with Japan.

Ill say it once more, youve got good ideas and frustrations, but lets see them in one of your own created topics.

Suspecting someone of having employment in an area you disagree with is not justification to launch personal attacks. In fact, there is no justification for launching personal attacks. If they continue, sanctions will be applied, as appropriate.
