Other threads are dealing with the degree/no degree issue currently but how's the age thing at the moment?
Friend 66 years certificated teacher at private school in Sth of China has been told this is her last semester ie 'come July you're out' even though she has good evaluations on her classroom skills.

China isn't too bad with age. Assuming you are healthy (and can prove this), you can get a job. I knew several older people, including a 64 year old woman with a Bachelor of Administration. I think the buxibans might not be so open though.

I said this before but I replaced a geeza in his 70's at a public school in Tokyo. I don't know for a fact that he was that old but that is what I was told.

On the opposite spectrum of age limits I was suprised to find some 18 year old Danish girls teaching English in Shijiazhuang. I thought I would be one of the youngest teachers here in China at 22!

That sucks. Still, "there's a seat for every arse" in this business, and another school will be happy to hire her.

If the school treats her that poorly, she's probably better off going somewhere else. Tell her she should see it as an opportunity to find a better place...

Point well made Is650.
I'll pass on yr wisdom.
I feel the university sector is the way for her and she is nicely placed to get something set up in time for new semester start end Aug.
She'll take a hit paywise but after 5 yrs in the glorious PRC I think she is limited in what she can get back in hr home country.
She needs to work for a couple more years.
