Tommy 'Soeharto' gets sentence remission of one year five days
SEMARANG (JP): Hutomo 'Tommy' Mandala Putra, the youngest son of former president Soeharto, had been granted a sentence remission of one year five days in conjunction with the commemoration of Indonesia's 60th Independence Day, an official said.
this guy murdered a high court judge and organized the bombong of the Jakarta Stock Exchange.
To help celebrate Independance day - get gets a cut in his sentence.

The kind of country in which the leading English-language newspaper can't seem to use the proper verb tense. Top-down corruption goes ALL the way down.... |

i suggest not taking the country seriously. indonesia amuses me. the kind of nonsense that goes on there in their judicial, social, ecinomic and financial spheres is amazing. same sh#it, different day.
no, nothing's changed and nothing will .... not in my lifetime, anyway. sit back n enjoy it.

It's nuts, isn't it? What can you do? Not much really. Probably best not to ponder over things like that too much, as it gets depressing after a while. |

Can u mob clarify something for me: is the Iwan Fals song 'Bento' about Tommy? I think it might be.
Tommy used to be a regular high-roller in the high-roller room @ a casino where I once worked in a former life. Apparently.
Namaku Bento
rumah real-estat
mobilku banyak
harta berlimpa...
Orang memanggilku
Bos Eksekutiv
Tokoh papan atas
atas segalanya ASYIK!

Actually, the song sounds like an homage to Tuan Chester. |

I see the religious dude who was convicted of organizing the bali Bomb thingies a few years ago has been given a reduced sentence, thanks to the independance day celebrations.
Is a government decree.
Good one Mr. president.
Wooo - Hoooo. he will be free next year.
Nice. |

Among very few other things, the welfare and health of my wife and children as well as my own, naturally. Principally, the things I feel able and competent to change for the better and to help others with. Most other things, I attempt to ignore as much as is possible.
Not ideal, but it's been working well for some time now.
As sickening as the events in Bali have been (and your particular experience), its just not good and healthy for any of us who can do nothing to stop this stupidity to dwell too much on it.
Naturally, deep sympathy is in order for all that innocent loss of life and thankful that we were not caught up in it.
What about yourself, Chester ?
best

Purely on a tangent note:
Chester, your 'avatar' doesn't show up on my machine. It looks to me like you've set your avatar to point at a file on your local hard drive (which of course, none of us can see) called 'siflo'
You might want to fix that. |

I heard that Bento was about Soeharto himself. I'm not certain of this. I know Iwan Fals did spend some time in prison because of the political views expressed in some of his music. |

I know its a bit late... but yes BENTO is about Suharto... BENteng SuharTO .. or suharto's fortress...
And yes Iwan has been jailed in the past. But Im a major fan of his, cuz he has the guts to tell it like it is....
btw he owns the ganthari chicken outlets... he and some other "artis" opened this place, to give singers from the streets a job....because before Iwan became famous...he was a street singer himself....
LONG LIVE IWAL FALS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
