I'm a US citizen, Masters in linguistics/tesol, and have quite a few years teaching experience in ESL.
At 62, could I get a job in Hong Kong?
I am presently teaching in an Engineering University in Saudi and want out.
Any hope for me, at my age, in Hong Kong?
Thanks |

In Honk Kong, with your age, it would be difficult to find work, competing with all the younger folks.
China, however, would welcome you with open arms, because there are never enough teachers to fill the positions needed in that vast country.
The salaries are not very high (10.000 rmb/$1200 U.S.) could be available for someone of your caliber, but you will have free housing, and you should be able to save at least half your salary, even eating out every day.
Drop me a line if needed.
Ghost, certified ESL/FSL teacher, soon to teach in Korea as a teacher trainer. |

60 is the official retirement age here. Teachers and principals alike have to stop working when they reach that age.
It is possible for NETs to extend their existing contracts past the age of 60, but I'm not sure if it is possible to employ a new member of staff over the age of 60.

Not all schools follow the sixty rule. DSS schools do not. However, I do know people who were not allowed to renew on the NET scheme as they were over 60. |
