Ive been teaching in Turkey for a while and have decided to try moving to Antalya. A friend told me this forum was a good source of information so I decided to give it a try.

Can anyone recommend some good and reliable, used loosely Very Happy , ESL schools to teach at? Ill be arriving in Antalya in a day or two and will start looking then.

Thanks
Raana

There are 4 private Kolejiler in the Antalya area but they mostly need certified teachers. If they are short staffed they will take someone without certification.

You should be forewarned, however, that teaching in private schools in the Antalya area can be stressful and unrewarding, because there are significant behavioral problems, which usually go unchecked by the Admin. (fearful of losing clients/lira).

Most of the teachers ghost met in Antalya have horror stories to report about the schools they taught in, and only those with exceptional class management skills or the skins of elephants might survive in those boiler rooms.

Ghost itself, is an escapee of one of the Private Colleges in Antalya, and if you do a search, you will be able to see the details (check for posting in October 2003).

As for private language schools, Antalya - for a city of its size (over 500.000) has few language schools of repute.

Ghost was involved for a time with the American Kultur Centre language centre, run by a good chap by the name of Halil Cil, who also has other schools in Eskisehir and Istanbul - quite an entrepreneur, and fluent English speaker is Halil.

Good luck with the search, but Antalya is not the best place in Turkey for teaching, and the general ambiance of the city tends to be somewhat "nouveau riche" and snobby, because many moneyed Turks use the place as a beach playground and place for r&r.

Thanks for the information. Reading it my first morning in Antalya kind of made me want to kill myself Shocked but it was good to know. I did do a search a while ago and the only thing that came up was a post from years ago. Not much was said so i thought it was a reasonably good place to go. My bad. Since I'm here I'm going to see what I can find. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky.

thanks again
